Wine and Dine at Chesapeake City's Chateau Bu-De
In the 1600s, an exceptionally accurate map of the Chesapeake Bay’s coastlines was charted by a Bohemian cartographer named Augustine Herrman during a decade-long survey commissioned by Cecil Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore. The compensation for Augustine’s work was generous and the surveyor wasted no time, acquiring a series of 4,000 acre land grants. Herrman eventually managed over 30,000 acres before his death in 1686 as one of the largest landowners in North America.
Today, the historic main estate, Bohemia Manor Farm, is best enjoyed with a glass of wine from Chateau Bu-De, the region’s premier fine wine destination. The Tasting Room is a beautiful place to relax along the Bohemia River in view of the vineyard. Savor a sangria, panini, or charcuterie board; tasting flights cost anywhere between $10 and $20.
