Elk Neck State Park offfers hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, birding, swimming and picnicking – all available on this stunning peninsula formed by the Chesapeake Bay on the west and the Elk River on the east.
Elk Neck State Park is divided into four sections, each having its own exciting features and unique characteristics. At the southern-most tip you'll find Turkey Point Lighthouse, situated on a 100-foot bluff. Climb to the top of the lantern room, where you can take in the breathtaking views of the bay. It's also a great place to come watch big birds fly overhead. Hawks and eagles can be viewed at the Raptor Viewing Field.
Explore the park's sandy shores in the North East Beach Area, the park's main aquatics area. Access the water for swimming in the Susquehanna Flats, or launch a canoe or kayak just north of the swimming area. The main boat launching area is the Rogues Harbor Area, offering boating access to the Elk River and piers for fishing and crabbing. You'll also find trailheads here for the Beaver Marsh Loop and White Banks Trail – two of the park's four hiking trails.
The eastern portion of the peninsula is dedicated to the Elk River Camping Area.
