Celebrate Independence Day in Chesapeake City
Come have a blast in Chesapeake City for the Fourth of July holiday! Nearly 250 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, we mark this occasion with one of the most awe-inspiring summer celebrations. Our waterfront community will let freedom ring on Friday, July 1, with music, vendors, food and fun – all capped off with a dazzling fireworks show over the canal at dark. And we hope you'll join us!
The patriotic festivities start in Pell Gardens, a waterfront park just a stone's throw from our historic Inn at the Canal. This quaint park has spectacular views of the ships that come into the C&D Canal, which connects the Delaware River with the Chesapeake Bay. For the annual Independence Day celebration, people will gather in the gardens to listen to live music from two area bands: Acoustic Turnpike, with its high-energy bluegrass music, and the blues and rock sounds of The Seedlings. Vendor tents will be set up throughout Pell Gardens with food and family activities. Visitors can pop into restaurants and shops up and down Bohemia Avenue for a bite to eat and great holiday sales.
At dusk, the annual celebration concludes with a fantastic red, white and blue fireworks show. Pack your folding chairs or a blanket and grab a seat to watch the brilliant bursts of color light up the night sky. The fireworks will be set off across the canal next to Schaefer's Canal House (which, by the way, has an excellent restaurant you'll want to try). You'll see many people enjoying the explosive show from their boats on the water. But the best views can really be found anywhere along the canal on either the north or south sides of town.
Of course, you're welcome to view the breathtaking fireworks from the Inn at the Canal. Our outdoor rum garden will be open for summer cocktails, bar bites, live music and the best view in Chesapeake City. No matter where you choose to watch the impressive Independence Day fireworks display, Chesapeake City is the perfect destination for a summer escape!
